How Brookfield Railroad (Sweetener Supply) Partnered with Fulcrum

Sweetener Supply—one of the nation’s leading distributors of corn syrup and granulated sugar—developed two transload sites: one in Brookfield and another in Bridgeview. Fulcrum helped structure both, though only Brookfield was ultimately activated.

There were delays in removing the property from local assessment rolls, but with Fulcrum’s ongoing administrative support, the designation held. The client later testified before the STB in Washington, spotlighting the broader challenges small rail-served businesses face with demurrage. The Brookfield railroad continues to operate successfully today.
